Organic Agriculture and Agro-Eco Tourism in the Mediterranean

Agribiomediterraneo-IFOAM (ΑΒΜ), the Mediterranean Regional Group of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM), announces a Conference on “Organic Agriculture and Agro-Eco Tourism in the Mediterranean“, in Zakynthos, Greece from  16 to 18, September 2011.

The aim of the IC is to improve scientific dialogues, implementation of information exchange, and dissemination transfer of knowledge and innovation strategies on organic agriculture for Mediterranean climate. ABM strongly supports agro-eco-tourism in the framework of organic agriculture, created a task force on this issue in 2008 and stays in contact with different interest groups focused on it. The final objective is to increase consciousness and reinforce the link between eco-tourism and organic farming as a way to develop: multifunctionality, diversification of crops, biodiversity, local and direct sale, local seasonal and fresh production, socio-economic benefit for both farmers and tourist-consumers, environmental and organic farming education.

The Conference will cover topics such as: organic agricultural principles, agro-eco-tourism principles, biodiversity, protected areas, multifunctionality, direct sales, on-farm processing, gastronomy, environmental education, bio architecture, health benefit of tourism, legal framework, evaluation and certification of agro-eco-tourism, key studies, green economy, agro-eco-tourism and disabled. Organic agriculture has an interactive relationship with agro-eco tourism and sustainability. The enforcement of local societies at a regional level, as the Mediterranean, could reinforce an independent and strong economy and development.

The 6th General Assembly (GA) of IFOAM AgriBioMediterraneo (ABM) will be held during the Conference in Zakynthos on September 17th, 2011.

DS Consulting will be represented at the Conference by Mr. Dimitris Sotiropoulos. He will make a presentation about “Carbon Footprinting for Goods & Services and Corporate Social Responsibility” in the context of the Green Economy Workshop.
